Why do I even need a breathing tool?
In our fast-paced modern lives, we all tend to forget about the simplest things, like how to breathe properly, the way our body and mind were designed to benefit from breath. In addition to being a beautiful piece of jewelry, The Shift is your physical reminder to breathe.
How long does it take to work?
We know how impatient we tend to be in this day in age – we want everything to have an immediate effect! Fortunately, The Shift works quickly. Within 2 minutes, the longer exhales activate your parasympathetic nervous system to calm your mind and body.
How do I use The Komuso Shift?
Watch this 2-minute video by one of the Komuso founders.
How long should my exhale be?
The intention of The Shift is to extend your exhale. When your exhalation is longer than your inhalation, your brain tells your parasympathetic nervous system to calm down. The deeper and longer the breath, the better!
What is The Shift made of?
The Shift is made from 316 high polished stainless steel which makes it extremely durable, so no need to worry about the plating fading or tarnishing. Just take care of it as you would care for any other piece of jewelry.
What does Japanese engraving mean?
The engraving on the back of the piece is Japanese kanji for “Be Still”. The Shift was inspired by the Komuso Monks of 17th century Japan who used a similar tool called a "shakuhachi'' to meditate.
Our collaborators at KOMUSO wanted to transmit the monks’ wisdom yet adapt the tool to our modern culture to help people slow down and become still.
How do I clean it?
You can use a non-toxic cleaning agent like mild soap to clear away any residue or impurities. You can use a cotton swab to clean the inside of the piece.
Except in the case of a manufacturing defect, we do not accept returns or refunds for The Shift. Dust or wipe clean with a cloth dampened with water once a week. Be sure not to leave water spots on the surface. These water spots will dry and could possibly leave permanent marks.
Clean stains/spots using the following steps: Dampen a soft cloth with a mixture of hot water and liquid dishwashing detergent. Wring the cloth as much as possible to remove excess liquid. Rub the surface lightly in a circular motion. Dry the surface immediately with a clean, soft towel.
